Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day
I've always been a glutton for bread. Thanks, Mom. So when I saw this book, Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day, I had to try it out. The concept is simple: fill up a tub with easy-to-make dough, put it in the fridge (it can stay in there for up to two weeks) and cut off a piece as you're ready to bake it. Sounds pretty easy, right? Well, handling the dough was a little tricky at first - it's VERY sticky. But after two days, I'm starting to get the hang of it. Monday night we had calzone. The crust was great but we'll use different stuffing next time. (We tried the book's recipe which used ricotta cheese & spinach. Yuck.) Last night was ciabatta for french dip sandwiches. Besides its strange shape, it was fantastic. It's too early to tell if I'll be giving up Wonder bread for good, but it's definitely a book that'll be getting some use.
